At IWannaDane, we believe that distance should never stand in the way of finding the perfect forever home for our puppies. While we love meeting our new owners in person, we offer professional shipping arrangements for families who aren’t within driving distance.
“Flying a Great Dane! Is it safe?”
This is the most common question we receive. The answer is: Absolutely. We would never consider air travel if it weren’t completely safe and comfortable for our dogs. With years of experience, we have refined a process that ensures our “Gentle Giants” arrive happy, relaxed, and ready to meet you.
Our “Pet-First” Travel Standards
We personally vet every transport company and airline we work with. We only book flights with approved carriers that offer dedicated Pet-Safe Programs following strict USDA guidelines.
- Climate Controlled: Your puppy travels in a temperature-controlled environment that shares the same air as the pilot.
- Pet Nanny Option: For many of our domestic flights, we utilize “Pet Nannies”—professional handlers who accompany your puppy in the passenger cabin (when size permits) or manage them personally through specialized climate-controlled cargo transit designed for live animals.
- Direct Routing: We always prioritize the most direct flights available to minimize travel time and ensure your puppy arrives the same day they depart.
Preparation for the Journey
Shipping a puppy might sound daunting, but we go the extra mile to prep your Dane for a “first-class” experience:
- The Comfort Crate: We use spacious, airline-approved crates that allow your puppy plenty of room to stand and turn. We line the crate with a thick, fluffy bed and include a toy or a blanket with a familiar scent from our home to help them feel secure.
- Hydration & Nutrition: We attach feeding instructions and food to the top of the crate. We provide a specialized “drip” water system or frozen water bowls that thaw gradually so they have a fresh supply of hydration throughout the flight.
- Pre-Flight Care: Before leaving, every puppy is exercised and given a chance to relax so they are calm and sleepy for the duration of the trip.
Real-Time Updates
We track every flight from takeoff to touchdown. You will receive the exact departure and arrival times, flight numbers, and airway bill information so you can be waiting at the airport to welcome your new family member the moment they land.
